Conscious Sedation

Home > Conscious Sedation

It’s common for people of all ages to experience different degrees of anxiety in anticipation of dental procedures. It’s especially true for young patients. My Tooth Fairy’s team knows many methods to lessen kids’ anxiety and feel relaxed in the dentist’s chair. One such method is conscious sedation, which only a few clinics offer and which provides better effects than traditional local anesthesia and analgesics.

At My Tooth Fairy’s, our doctors know how to combine traditional medications with special anti-anxiety agents that let young patients eliminate pain and worry, yet still maintain the responsiveness to voice and touch. We recommend sedation dentistry for patients who feel nervous about the dental procedures they must undergo. It’s also recommended for patients with complex dental procedures that last several hours.

The conscious sedation types offered at My Tooth Fairy’s include:

Inhaled sedation

Inhaled sedation, is to let the patient feel relaxed in the dental chair. It doesn’t have a lasting effect and lets the patient leave the clinic with a clear mind.

Oral sedation

This helps patients ease anxiety while still being able to respond to the doctor. Oral sedation is taken orally. After the dental procedure is complete, patients need someone to escort them home, who can also take care of them for the rest of the day.

Intravenous sedation

Intravenous sedation lets the patient completely relax. As part of the procedure, the doctor starts an IV and administers drugs that let the patient enter a sedative state, yet remain responsive. After the procedure, a patient also needs an escort to carry him home and stay next to him for the end of the day.
